
The Honorable Nina Turner is the founder and President of We Are Somebody, a coalition-building organization for the working class. She is also a Senior Fellow at The New School Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy. Nina Turner served on Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns as a national surrogate in 2016 and national co-chair in 2020. She continues to fight tirelessly to advance policy that improves the material conditions of working people across the United States of America and the world. She has also taken her message abroad to the United Kingdom.
In 2006, Turner was the first Black woman elected to represent Ward 1 on the Cleveland City Council, a predominantly Black working-class ward. In 2008, she became an Ohio State Senator, serving the 25th Senate District.
